Science Experiment blog #2

Science Blog - #2

Aim: To observe a neutralisation reaction.

Equipment: A test tube, test tube rack, 1 mol L-1 Na2CO3 (sodium carbonate), 1 mol L-1 HCI (hydrochloride acid), dropper or dropper bottle, Universal indicator solution.

Method for neutralisation:

- Get a test tube rack, b test tubes, acid, base and universal indicator.

- Fill 4 test tubes with 3 ml of acid.

- Fill 2 test tubes with 3 ml of base.

-  Add a squirt of universal indicator to each.

- Add different amounts of acid and base to make the colours of the rainbow (ROYGBIV).

Results:

Discussion: Neutralisation is a process when acids and bases react to form salt and water. In a reaction to water, neutralisation results in excess of hydrogen or hydroxide ions present in the solution. The pH of the neutralised solution depends on the strength of acid or base involved in it. We made the colours of the rainbow green on the pH scale is in the middle which means its neutral. Red on the pH scale is a very strong base but for red its an acid. ROYGBIV stands for all the colours in the rainbow R stands for red, O stands for orange, Y stands for yellow, G stand for green, B stands for blue, I stands for indigo a purplish-blue and V standing for violet.

Experiment 1-Acids Base and Lithium colour change

Aim-To test the PH of a range of household chemicals

Method-1st we added a few drops of the home chemicals we were given for testing then each picked a spot to put the chemicals, then tested the chemicals with lithium paper to see the out come of what the colour would change to, Then add a few drops of Universal indicator.

Results-

1.Dish washing Liquid

Colour in Blue litmus- Blue
Colour in Red litmus- Violet
Colour in Universal Indicator-Green

2. Vinegar
Colour in Blue Litmus- Red
Colour in Red litmus- Red
Colour in Universal Indicator- Red

3. Toilet Cleaner

Colour in Blue Litmus- Red
Colour in Red litmus- Red
Colour in Universal Indicator- Red

4. Spray & Wipe

Colour in Blue Litmus-Indigo
Colour in Red Litmus- Indigo
Colour in Universal Indicator- Blue

Holocaust

 Thursday February 25

Holocaust-

  • Who:The Nazi's,Hitler had given command that to any Jew that retaliates against becoming one to the Nazi’s prisoners they were to be executed on sight and all that accept should be taken to Nazi camp sites as a rally point for them to be kept and held until further command from Hitler to

  • What:The Nazi’s were scared of the Jews so they had decided to contain all the weak Jews and take them to the camp sites all set up ready for the Jews to be held and executed.

  • Where:Mostly all were constructed in Germany during the continuous time of WW2 for the Nazi’s to contain all prisoners

  • When:Begging the holocaust the Jews were being detained in Germany in Nazi camp sites where they were held as prisoners to the Nazi army and were kept there until Hitler had given command when and where to move the Jews to a secure location.Date-1933-1945

  • Why:To capture the gews and contain them as the Nazi’s prisoners/workers, And basically make them slaves of the Nazi’s and under the command of the soldiers controlling the camps and keeping all the Jews in check making sure they do what their suppose to be doing unless if they retaliate against command they get executed.

Adrenaline Forest

EOTC task 3

Adrenaline Forest

On Wednesday we went to Spencer park and Adrenaline Forest and during the wait for us and Tieke to swap for Adrenaline Forest some of us were playing volleyball the whole time and once it was time to finally switch the briefing for Adrenaline Forest it was at first confusing but then turned out to be simple. I then finished briefing and me and Aisa moved onto level 3 with Miah and us three worked as a team and got through the course together but behind me was Gerald and Jay-C.My overall favourite first experience at Adrenaline Forest was being able to complete level 3 and that I pushed my boundaries of heights and the fact I've never done it and wanted to go up three levels was a improvement.

Evaporating Experiment

Aim-Separating the copper sulfate and the water then to make it to a solid

Hypothesis-I think that the copper sulfate and the boiled water when mixed the two liquids will combine together and become into a clear blue solid.

Method:

1. Set up element.

2.Add mL of hot water to the beaker and place element.

3.Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full.

4. Carefully, Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker.

5. Turn on the element to 3.

6. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of solute form.

7.Turn off the element- be careful not to touch, as it will be hot for a long time

Observations:When the water  began to boil the copper sulfate began to sort of become a solid sticking to the edges.

Conclusion:Now it has turned into a Crystal type of looking that's stuck around the whole socket of the tube

Discussion:The copper sulfate began to turn into a crystal

Evaluation:The crystal shaped solid inside the tube became solid and stuck on the out skirts of the tube and had solidified that copper sulfate.
